Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal is all set to play the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in his next film, confirmed director Laxman Utekar. The “Mimi” fame director, who collaborated with Kaushal in the yet-to-be-released romantic-comedy, said the actor was the perfect choice for the historical role.

Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. “His personality, like his height and physique, matches Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He is also a brilliant performer. We didn’t do any look test, I was sure he can play Sambhaji.”

He will undergo training in fencing, horse riding and some other things for four months. And once we are satisfied, we will start shooting.” The cinematographer-director said that he is keen to show the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj on the big screen. Utekar said, “We have seen many films on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, but no one knows what a great warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was, or his contribution to the Maratha Empire and Maharashtra.”
