Veteran Tamil actor Srikanth, who made his debut in the 1965 classic “Vennira Adai” with the late J Jayalalithaa, died here on Tuesday. Film industry sources gave this information.

He told that the 82-year-old actor passed away due to old age. “#RIPSrikanth!!,” said the official Twitter handle of artist association ‘Nadigar Sangam’.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin condoled the actor’s death.

In his career spanning 40 years, Srikanth had worked as a hero and a villain in addition to several character roles.

‘Venira Adai’ (White Cloth) was directed by the late veteran CV Sridhar.

The actor is known for his many supporting roles in films starring top stars of Tamil cinema, including the late Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.

His memorable roles include playing the rebellious son of a tough police officer played by Ganesan in the 1974 superhit ‘Thanga Pathakkam’ (The Gold Medal).

He played the role of the anti-hero in Rajinikanth’s first film as a hero, ‘Bhairavi’.

Meanwhile, in an official statement, Stalin expressed grief over the actor’s demise.

He recalled the many “memorable films” in which Srikanth had acted and pointed out that he had acted in a variety of roles.

The Chief Minister said that he was also personally acquainted with the late actor and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
