An official confirmed on Tuesday that prominent playback singer K S Chitra and musician Uttam Singh will receive the National Lata Mangeshkar Award of the Madhya Pradesh government at a function on September 28. The award ceremony will be held for the first time in the auditorium built by the state government in memory of Mangeshkar. The state culture department presents the award every year on the birth anniversary of Lata Mangeshkar. Jayant Bhise, director of the Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangeet Evam Kala Academy, claimed that Uttam Singh will receive the Mangeshkar award for 2022; K S Chitra will receive it for 2023.

The award, instituted in 1984, aims to inspire artistic fineness in the field of light music. It carries a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a citation. Naushad, Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle are among its past receivers.

Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar made unforgettable contributions to music, winning numerous awards and getting honoured in her music career. She was also awarded the Bharat Ratna award in 2001. She passed away on February 6, 2022. She will forever be immortal and remembered through her songs.
