Veteran BJP leader Uma Bharti slams Shivraj Singh Chouhan; Demand for Nadda’s intervention on liquor policy

Veteran BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti on Saturday wrote a letter to party president JP Nadda seeking his intervention on the liquor policy in the BJP-ruled state.

Expressing concern over the liquor policy implemented by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government, Bharti said she has been opposing it for a few months, but now she is feeling “suffocated”.

Earlier, Bharti had made headlines over the issue either by throwing stones at liquor shops or by staging a sit-in in front of liquor shops and expressing her displeasure against the top BJP leadership, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Chouhan. However, he took the issue publicly to the party’s national president for the first time.

Bharti made the letter public on her Twitter account.

In her three-page letter, Bharti attacked Chouhan by saying: “You (Shivraj) respect me a lot and at the same time you know me very well that I don’t go against party rules, but I do not compromise on matters that are related to my faith. ,

Bharti further mentioned that whenever he discussed the liquor policy issue with Chouhan, he always maintained secrecy, as he was confident that a positive outcome would emerge. “It made me the subject of ridicule and criticism,” she said.

He further wrote, “The demand for ban on sale of liquor in Madhya Pradesh is not my personal ego, but it is a matter of respect for women, safety of families, which is directly related to the livelihood and social harmony of youth.”

Bharti appealed to Nadda to discuss the issue with senior party leaders and prepare a unified liquor policy for all BJP-ruled states.
