Valanka set to be elected unopposed as AIFF member | Goa News – Times of India

Panaji: Churchill Brothers CEO Valanka Alemao will be the first woman to be elected as executive committee member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
According to the list published by returning officer Umesh Sinha on Saturday, the last day to file nominations, 20 candidates have thrown their hat in the ring for 17 posts.
While the post of president, vice president and treasurer has two nominations each, the 14 posts of executive committee members has 14 nominations, paving the way for all of them, including Valanka, to be elected unopposed.
The final list of eligible candidates will be published after scrutiny on Sunday.
Valanka is a nominee of the Goa Football Association (GFA), led by her father and former chief minister Churchill Alemao. Her nomination has been proposed by NA Haris (Karnataka) and Maloji Raje Chhatrapati (Maharashtra).
The post of AIFF president will see former India goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey being challenged by Bhaichung Bhutia, former India captain and the country’s second-most capped footballer after Sunil Chhetri.
On the final day of filing nominations, Rajasthan FA president Manvendra entered the fray and will lock horns with Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA) president NA Haris.
Despite receiving two nominations for the post of treasurer, Arunachal Pradesh’s Kipa Ajay is expected to be elected unopposed as his challenger, Gopalkrishna Kosaraju, has sought to withdraw.
“I wish to inform you that I’m withdrawing the nomination filed for the post of treasurer,” Kosaraju, president of the Andhra Pradesh Football Association, wrote in his email to the returning officer on Friday.
According to the election schedule, candidates whose nomination has been found valid on scrutiny can withdraw his/her candidature on Monday and Tuesday, before 1pm.
