Rajkot: Former Governor of Karnataka and veteran BJP leader vajubhai walaSurendranagar, who is recovering after cataract surgery in Rajkot, is reviving his old plan to build a temple for Bhavani Maa in the district. in Saurashtra regionhandjob Temples play a huge role in uniting the community.
The temple practice of Vala aims to unite all the sub-castes of Rajputs, mostly along the lines of Patidars and Kolis. Patidar’s Khodaldham and Umita Temple remain at the focal point of all political parties. Both the communities had recently flexed their muscles in an effort to negotiate with political parties for the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections.
Vala, who belongs to the Karadia Rajput community, mooted the idea of the temple in 2013. Bhavani Maa is the presiding deity of all Rajput families. However, nothing worked on the ground while Vala kept his campaign alive in every election. Kodinar, Talala and Somnath are the three assembly constituencies where Karadias form a majority. The Karadia Rajputs are also an important vote bank in Botad, Talja, Sehore, Limdi, Sayla, Dhandhuka and Sanand.
Some leaders of the Karadia community had met Vala last week at his residence in Rajkot. Around six leaders from Surendranagar and Dhandhuka went to meet Vajubhai at his residence. Rajput community leader and BJP leader Jasha Brad also said, “We are planning to meet Vajubhai on Saturday for the temple. The purpose of the temple is to unite all our people so that we can have our say in politics.” The Karadiya community is considering fielding candidates of both the parties on the three seats that the Congress won in the 2017 elections, Kodinar, Talala and Somnath.
Earlier there were plans to build the temple near Chotila, but now they have identified a site between Sayla and Limdi in Surendranagar district.
Raibha Rathod, who is actively involved in the project, said, “We have a parcel of about 25 acres which was recently converted into non-agricultural land. We are also in talks to buy another 10 acres. The Rajputs of Gujarat All the sub-castes are collectively building this temple.”
