More than 150 nurses and co-win app handlers refused to work after the payment system was revised from monthly to daily basis

Nagpur: Covid vaccination was affected in 23 out of 153 centers of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) after some employees went on strike on Saturday. In some centres, it was partially affected. Meanwhile, on Saturday, due to lack of Kovishield dose, vaccination will not be done in NMC centers.
Also, the state government plans to start immunization of bed-ridden people at their homes and has sought details.
The State Government has sent a medical certificate to the bed-ridden persons about their name, address, contact number, reason for staying in bed, condition of the patients and eligibility for vaccination by the treating doctor as well as their close relatives or Asked to be sent by caregivers with informed consent. covidvacc2bedridden@gmail.com.
More than 150 Vaccinators (Nurses) and Co-Win Application Handlers (Data Entry Operators) working on daily wage basis stopped working without any notice.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Sanjay Chilkar told TOI that the NMC had to hire staff from urban primary health centers to continue with the vaccinations. From 33,235 on Friday, the number of people vaccinated on Saturday came down to 25,575.
Chilkar said that the striking employees will be replaced from Monday. Many doctors, data entry operators and nurses are working on a temporary basis in COVID hospitals and vaccination centres.
NMC used to pay Rs 17,000 per month to data entry operators, Rs 25,000 to nurses and Rs 30,000 to doctors. From this month the payment system was revised from monthly to daily – Rs 500, Rs 700 and Rs 1,000 respectively. Angered by this, the employees refused to work.
NMC Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi said that it was decided to close all the centers on Sunday to avoid overcrowding. “We don’t have enough stock of Covishield doses,” he said.
As the NMC received 64,000 doses of Covishield on 15 July, vaccination resumed and was conducted for two days. After this, no new stock is dispatched. Out of the last 25 days, only 10 have been vaccinated.
Launched a day earlier, no vaccination took place at NMC’s Pachpauli ANC center on Saturday due to paucity of beneficiaries. Three pregnant women got the wax on the first day. NMC will continue the campaign and is likely to open two more centers at Daga Hospital and IGGMCH.
