We have also increased the immunization infrastructure at the village level, which has helped in increasing the number of vaccinations. Similar measures have been taken in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal areas where, apart from large government hospitals, sessions are now being held at Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) and Urban Community Health Centers (UCHCs). All government health facilities in the district now have COVID Vaccination Centers (CVCs).”
The district also has a good network of cold-chain points with over 350 such points. “The vaccines can be stored at these centres, which are all close to the CVC. Thus, the dose can be delivered without any hiccups. There are also plans to take the number of CVCs to 1,000 from the current 800 government immunization centers in Pune district. This will further increase the daily vaccination numbers,” he said.
He said the biggest factor has been the increase in the supply of vaccine in September, which helped Pune to deliver over 1 lakh doses in less than seven days from September 1.
