Uttarakhand: Heavy rain in Sonprayag once again stopped Kedarnath Yatra

Rudraprayag: The Rudraprayag district administration on Saturday informed that the Kedarnath Yatra has once again been stopped to ensure the safety of the pilgrims amidst the heavy rain continuing from Sonprayag in Uttarakhand.

Earlier on June 30, Rudraprayag police in Sirobgad area had informed the district to remain closed till 4 am after debris and stones fell from the hill, causing traffic jam on both sides of the highway.

The Badrinath highway was also blocked due to several stones falling in Birhi and Pagal Nala area after overnight rains on June 25.

Meanwhile, on May 17, traffic was disrupted on Badrinath Marg NH-7 near Panchpulia in Karnprayag due to stone falling from the hill. According to the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee, on June 18, at least 7 lakh 27 thousand pilgrims have visited Kedarnath since the opening of the doors on May 6.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in Uttarakhand on Sunday and Wednesday (July 10 and 13).

The IMD has also predicted extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand for today (Saturday, 9 July).
In a tweet, the IMD said, “Heavy rains are very likely to occur over Jammu & Kashmir on 09th & 10th, Himachal Pradesh on 10th, 12th & 13th & Uttarakhand on 10th & 13th Jul 2022.”… on 09 Jul 2022 Over Uttarakhand,” it added.
