“Schools in Uttarakhand, which have been closed for a long time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will reopen for classes 9 to 12 on August 2 and for classes 6 to 8 on August 16,” officials said.

An order has been issued by the state government saying that it is applicable to all boarding, day boarding government and private schools.

All schools have been asked to sanitize their premises properly and admit students only after thermal screening and hand sanitization at the gate. The order said that students should not be forced to attend classes physically as the option of online attendance would also be available with them.

It states that students who come to school to attend their classes must obtain the consent of their parents or guardians to do so.

Online classes will continue as before for students of classes 1 to 5.

To ensure adherence to the COVID norms, schools have also been asked to appoint a nodal officer to monitor the same and take action in case of any violation.

According to the order, it will be mandatory for all students, teachers and staff members to wear masks, social distancing and frequent hand washing.

If anyone is found with symptoms like fever, cough or cold in the school premises, the nodal officer will have to immediately inform the district administration and health authorities in consultation with the school management and the headmaster.
