Sources say that Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat are already in the race for the post of CM.

The BJP may have a clean sweep in Uttarakhand with 47 out of 70 seats, but Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s defeat from his seat has now changed the main question: Who will form the government in the hill state?

Dhami on Friday resigned as the chief minister and said he has been asked to continue in the post till a new government is formed.

Intensive deliberations have begun in Uttarakhand with the newly elected MLAs reaching Dehradun, where senior leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya and Prahlad Joshi are already camping.

Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan have been tasked by the central BJP leadership to finalize the CM face in Uttarakhand and they will also reach Dehradun soon.

Amid the buzz of the new CM face, Vijayvargiya hinted that Dhami would no longer be in the running. When asked about Dhami, Vijayvargiya said: “We have internal democracy. Legislators will choose their leader. No one can comment on who will be the Chief Minister. Dhami is now a national leader.”

However, Tejinder Bagga, who was also watching the elections in the state, tweeted “Dhami once again”, fueling speculations of the BJP going with Dhami’s face once again.
