New Delhi: A car and its occupants were rescued by the BRO (Border Road Organisation) on Monday after it got stuck in a landslide near Lambagarh drain near Badrinath National Highway due to incessant rains.

According to ANI, debris has blocked the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand and damaged dozens of vehicles in Sirobgarh. The Khankhra-Khedakhal-Khirsu link road has also been blocked due to the landslide.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Uttarakhand. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh,” the IMD said in its daily weather bulletin issued on Monday morning.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the Disaster Management Department, Police Administration and all the District Magistrates to be on alert.

In another incident, two people were killed when a house collapsed following a landslide at Selkhola in Champawat district. All schools for classes 1 to 12 across Uttarakhand remained closed on Monday, while trekking, mountaineering and camping activities were banned till Tuesday in the high altitude areas of the state, including the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve and various forest divisions.
