Lucknow: The state government has allotted 2000 square meters of land to Uttar Pradesh Police to build an Anti-Terrorist Squad unit at Noorpur village in Deoband, western Uttar Pradesh.
The land belonging to Uttar Pradesh Laghu Udyog Nigam Limited (UPSIC) has been allotted free of cost. The state cabinet had given its approval to the unit on December 2.
UP ATS, which is headquartered in Lucknow, has its units in 17 districts of the state. Two additions have been made recently in Bahraich and Shravasti. Deoband will be the 18th unit of ATS.
ATS Inspector General Gajendra Goswami said: “A unit of the Special Police Operation Team (SPOT) of the ATS
The unit will be deployed with a smaller unit for intelligence gathering and operations. “A dog squad, bomb disposal squad and a wireless trapping unit as well as a group of combat units will be part of it,” Goswami said.
“The ATS unit was planned in Deoband as it falls in the border area of ​​the state. This will also increase the depth, operational capability and strength in western UP.”
UP ATS already has a training center in Anora area of ​​Sarojininagar in Lucknow and efforts are on to set up one unit each at Varanasi, Mirzapur, Azamgarh and Lakhimpur Kheri.
Another unit is also expected to come up near the proposed Noida International Airport, the official said. “The location for ATS units is being selected in strategically important areas,” he said.
