Prayagraj: There are no vaccineers here, no hesitation; Rather it is the collective will and intent to defeat the deadly coronavirus and stop the third wave. About 97% of prisoners lodged in Naini Central Jail, including hardcore criminals and terrorists, with their checkered past and the law has overtaken the efforts, and has already taken covid Vaccine so far.
Data shared by Naini Central Jail Prayagraj Revealed on Sunday that 4,086 prisoners, including 3,935 men and 151 women, have taken their leave till Sunday.
The Central Jail has 4,213 inmates including 4,052 males and 161 females.
senior jail superintendent PN Pandey told TOI, “So far, 4,086 prisoners including 4,086 men and 151 women have been given the first dose. We have set a target to vaccinate all 4,213 prisoners including 4,052 males and 161 females. There are only eight male prisoners left for the first dose, while 950 male and 65 female prisoners have also taken the second dose and have been fully vaccinated.
Pandey said that higher officials review the vaccination of prisoners at regular intervals as new prisoners keep on coming while other prisoners leave the premises after getting bail.
For now, 2,963 prisoners including 2,882 men and 81 women have been released for the second dose which will be given on the scheduled dates.
Apart from vaccination, the jail authorities have taken all corrective measures to check the spread of coronavirus on the premises and conduct tests on a regular basis.
A total of 121 prisoners had tested positive for coronavirus infection in the second wave, but there were no positive cases now.
In both the first and second wave, 531 prisoners were found to be Covid positive. The infected prisoners were treated at the Kovid Care Center inside the jail and all recovered and there were no deaths.
“We are still taking all precautions. Undertrials brought here are first kept in a temporary jail on the premises. They are subjected to a rapid antigen test, and if they test negative they are taken inside the main prison. Any inmate who tests positive is kept at the jail’s Covid Care Center. When a positive prisoner tests negative, he is kept in the quarantine barracks for 14 days,” said the jail superintendent.
