Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a major center of mobile phone manufacturing in India

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is fast emerging as a major center of mobile phone manufacturing in the country and many companies like Oppo, Vivo, Samsung, Lava and Formi are setting up their units.

With the initiatives of the Yogi Adityanath government, the Digital India campaign has gained momentum, while the state has witnessed record investments in the IT sector.

According to a government spokesperson, officials of these mobile phone makers have invested heavily in the state due to the investment-friendly policies of the Yogi government in the field of electronic manufacturing.

State Minister and spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh said that the picture was completely different four years ago, when no one could even imagine setting up a factory to manufacture mobile handsets in the state.

In 2014, only 6 crore mobile handsets were manufactured in the country, which increased to 11 crore in 2015-16 and 175 crore in 2016-17.

Vivo’s factory in the Yamuna Expressway Development Authority area alone is expected to start production of 120 million mobile handsets soon.

Vivo Mobiles Pvt Ltd is setting up a factory to manufacture mobile handsets in Sector 24 of Yeda with an investment of Rs 7,000 crore.

Six crore mobile sets will be made in the first phase of this factory to be built on 169 acres of land. In the second phase, the capacity of this factory will be increased to manufacture 120 million mobile handsets every year.

Vivo’s factory in Yeda will provide employment to 60,000 people.

Apart from Vivo, Chinese major Oppo Mobile India Pvt Ltd is setting up its factory in Greater Noida at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore to make smart phones.

Similarly, Holitech India Pvt Ltd is setting up a mobile phone display unit in Greater Noida itself. Land has been allotted for the mobile phone display unit to be built with an investment of Rs 1,772 crore.

Lava Electronics has set up its factory in Noida and is manufacturing mobile handsets there. Samsung had set up its factory for manufacturing mobile phones in Noida last year.

Formi Trading Pvt Ltd is setting up a factory for manufacturing mobile handsets in Greater Noida and KHY Electronics India Pvt Ltd in Noida.

Chinese company Sunvoda Electronics has also shown interest in setting up a factory in Greater Noida to manufacture smartphones, lithium batteries and plastic mobile cases.

Sanvoda has decided to set up its factory in Greater Noida at an estimated cost of Rs 1,500 crore.

Companies set up in Uttar Pradesh will cater to more than half the demand for mobile handsets in the country.
