Uttar Pradesh Government To Begin Agra-Mathura Helicopter Service Soon

Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is all set to start helicopter services between Agra and Mathura. The state cabinet has approved the leasing out of the city’s heliports to Rajas Aerosports and Adventures Pvt Ltd under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. According to a senior state official, the choppers will operate from the newly constructed heliport in Agra’s Etmadpur sub-division to Mathura’s Govardhan, where another heliport is under construction. Earlier, at least five helicopter operating companies had participated in the tender process to start services between Agra and Mathura, out of which Rajas Aerosports & Adventures Pvt Ltd was selected to provide chopper services between the two cities .

Principal secretary, tourism, Mukesh Meshram said: “Rajas Aerosports and Adventure will have to obtain approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), after which the company can start services between Agra and Mathura.”

In the second phase, the services will start in Lucknow, Prayagraj and Kapilvastu followed by Varanasi and Ayodhya. The services would be operational in 20-25 cities of the state in the next two to four years, he said.

“This is the first time that the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is operating such a service. The heliport will be leased to Rajas Aerosports & Adventures Pvt Ltd for Rs 25,00,500 per annum. Based on the financial model of the two heliports, departmental consultancy firm KPMG fixed a minimum base price of Rs 13.50 lakh, against which the price bid by the firm is 85.20 per cent higher,” he informed.

Under the terms of the lease, the selected firm will have to pay Rs.2,03,84,000 before the contract is executed. The lease is for 30 years. The developer will be given two years to carry out the development work after which the lease will be renewed for 30 years.
