Uttar Pradesh: Gangster who shot 16-year-old girl for making video killed Lucknow News – Times of India

Gorakhpur: Wanted Rogue Vijay Prajapati was killed in an encounter with the Gorakhpur police in the early hours of Friday.
Vijay had shot and killed a 16-year-old girl Kajal Singh in Gorakhpur last month with a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh. Vijay, a resident of Gorakhpur’s Gagha locality, had a dispute with Rajiv Nayan, an employee of the district court. On 20 August, Vijay along with his four companions reached Rajiv’s house and started beating.
‘Looking for gangster ally’
When Rajiv’s teenage daughter Kajal tried to capture the attack on her mobile, Vijay shot her. He was taken to KGMU in Lucknow where he died on 25 August. The incident prompted the police to launch a massive search for Vijay. With at least eight cases of murder, robbery and extortion pending against him since 2018, Vijay along with his associates went underground. “At least a dozen police teams were pressed into service to nab him. We were getting information about his movement but he was constantly changing his whereabouts,” said ADG Gorakhpur Zone Akhil Kumar, who supervised the police action against Vijay.
Gorakhpur SSP Vipin Tada said that during the routine checking of vehicles in the early hours of Friday, the police tried to stop two people on a motorcycle. “Both tried to run away and when the police chased them, they opened fire. The police called a back-up force and opened fire on the miscreants,” the SSP said. One miscreant, later identified as Vijay, suffered gunshot wounds while his accomplice managed to escape. The injured was taken to Gagaha CHC where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police are now searching for Vijay’s accomplice who managed to escape.
