Uttar Pradesh: 12 killed, 21 injured in boiler explosion at Hapur factory; PM, President condole death

Twelve people were killed and 21 others injured in an explosion at a factory in western Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district on Saturday. The blast took place after a boiler exploded in a factory coming under UPSIDC industrial area in Dhaulana.

After the blast, several firefighters rushed to the spot, which is about 80 km from Delhi. Police said around 30 people were present in the affected area at the time of the blast. According to the police, rescue and relief measures have been taken at the spot. The explosion was so strong that the roofs of some nearby factories were damaged. It took firefighters three hours to douse the fire in the factory.

Hapur, Superintendent of Police, Deepak Bhukar said that 12 people died and 21 were injured, who are being treated in hospitals. Some of the injured have been referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

Hapur Medha District Magistrate Rupam said that the factory was given a license to manufacture electronic goods. “And now, it is a matter of investigation as to what was actually going on here. This is a sad incident. Forensic teams have reached and are collecting samples,” he said, adding that efforts are on to ensure that the injured persons get the best medical treatment.

Hapur IG Praveen Kumar said that action would be taken against those responsible for the blast.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Describing the incident as “heartbreaking” and expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. “The accident at the chemical factory in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh is heart-wrenching. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. The state government is actively involved in treating the injured and providing all possible help: PM,” the PMO tweeted.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and said that the officials concerned have been directed to conduct quick relief and rescue operations and provide proper treatment to the injured.

President Ram Nath Kovind also took to Twitter to express grief over the incident. “Deeply saddened to hear about the death of many people due to accident at the factory in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. I express my condolences to the families of the deceased in this accident and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” he tweeted in Hindi.
