Republican candidate Lily Tang Williams lashed out at Jake Sullivan’s wife Maggie Goodlander after being accused of favouring the rich.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan’s wife Maggie Goodlander was trolled by Republican Congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams in broken English for being a ‘multimillionaire’ after the former accused her of favouring the rich during a debate.
Goodlander and Williams are running for the congressional seat in the 2nd District in New Hampshire which was vacated by Democratic Representative Annie Kuster, Fox News reported. The duo exchanged opinions on wide-ranging topics like childcare, immigration, abortion and support for Ukraine.
Notably, Goodlander is a former White House aide who hails from the powerful Tamposi family and has deep political connections. She is married to Jake Sullivan and announced her bid to run for Congress from her home state of New Hampshire in May this year.
‘You are wealthy’: Republican candidate trolls Goodlander
While both candidates were making closing arguments during the debate, Goodlander said Williams wanted to favour the rich in her tax policy. “She believes that we should give a break to the wealthiest and the biggest corporations and hope for the best, hope that the results will trickle down to hardworking people,” said Goodlander.
“I take a very different approach. I believe that the middle class deserves a tax cut, and I believe that we will do a lot for this country by ensuring that we don’t continue this disastrous tax policy,” the former White House aide further said.
In a sharp response, Williams raised her hand and said, “You are wealthy. You’re worth $20 million to $30 million. How do you know about regular people’s suffering? Do you go shopping? Go to Walmart? Buy food? I talk to those people.”

“You pretend to be a renter in Nashua a few months ago, move back to run for this open seat with millions of dollars from Washington DC insiders… I don’t have money to run TV ads, and you are pretending that you are poor, complain rent is so high. You couldn’t save that apartment for other people to rent in Nashua. Just go back to your $2 million home in Portsmouth. Please don’t say that because you do not understand regular people’s concerns. People cry in my arms,” she added.
Williams calls Biden ‘divisive’, Sullivan ‘incompetent’
Williams also expressed support for freedom in Ukraine. She said she worked with the late Senator John McCain to take on Russian President Vladimir Putin, because of which she is now banned in Russia. The Republican candidate also supported the deportation of illegal immigrants and called Sullivan “incompetent” and said he should be fired.
She also attacked Biden’s “garbage” remark aimed at former President Donald Trump’s supporters, saying that is not “unifying and positive and it’s been going on for a while.” She called Joe Biden the most divisive president since she came to the US.
“You are white, lots of people are white and talk about MAGA Republicans or threats to democracy. You know all those rhetorics do not help. I like to talk about the American dream. How happy I’m here, how much I love this country. I want to serve the people,” she added.
How are Goodlander and Williams faring?
The latest poll shows Goodlander with an eight-point lead for the 2nd District in New Hampshire. It is important to mention here that both candidates are millionaires, but Goodlander is far richer as she comes from an influential family and has several political connections. Tang Williams is worth between $3.8 million and $8.6 million, while Goodlander is worth between $9.9 million and $39 million, according to WMUR-TV.
Tang Williams is a Chinese immigrant who became a US citizen in 1994. She has also previously run as a Libertarian in Colorado. When she came to the US from China, she only had $100 in her pocket, as per the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism. New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu has called Tang Williams a “phenomenal success story”.
Goodlander worked in the US Justice Department as a top antitrust official and as counsel to Attorney General Merrick Garland before moving to the White House chief of staff’s office earlier this year. Previously, she served as an intelligence officer in the Navy Reserve and taught constitutional law at the University of New Hampshire and Dartmouth College.
