The victim’s attorney highlighted the Fulton County Jail’s lack of sanitation as the reason for the unfortunate demise. A full investigation into his death has been launched.

A 35-year-old man died after allegedly being eaten with insects inside a prison in Atlanta, United States.

The New York Post reported that he was found unresponsive in a “filthy jail cell” after being “eaten alive by insects and bedbugs”, according to the victim’s attorney.

When the body was discovered, one of the detention officers refused to perform CPR because he said she had “gone insane,” the lawyer said.

The victim has been identified as LaShawn Thompson, who was being held at the Fulton County Jail.

“The jail cell Mr. Thompson was not fit for a sick animal. He didn’t deserve it. Someone should be held accountable for his death,” the lawyer said.

Thompson was found unresponsive on September 13, 2022, and was pronounced dead after several CPR attempts.

The victim’s family has demanded an inquiry into the death and has also demanded the closure of the jail.

The victim’s attorney highlighted the Fulton County Jail’s lack of sanitation as the reason for the unfortunate demise.

Thompson’s body was found to contain no obvious signs of trauma, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s report obtained by USA TODAY, and it cited a “severe bedbug infestation” in the inmate’s cell.

However, the medical report listed Thomson’s cause of death as undetermined.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Response

Meanwhile, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said a full investigation into his death has been launched.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office offered condolences to Thompson’s family.

The office also listed several immediate actions taken in the aftermath, including an additional $500,000 to address bedbug, lice and other vermin infestations.

Officials will also update protocols for security visits, and add additional staff members to their mental health unit.

“This is just one of many cases in the criminal justice system right now that highlights the critical need for a new prison and criminal justice complex that provides safe and humane conditions and the ability to offer mental health and other services for rehabilitation.” Keeps,” The Office wrote on its Twitter handle.
