US issues ‘Level One’ Covid-19 travel notice for Americans visiting India

New Delhi: The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a ‘Level One’ COVID-19 notice for Americans traveling to India. The notice states that the risk of contracting the infection is low if the person is fully vaccinated.

This notice has been issued for both India and Pakistan. It added, “If you are fully vaccinated with an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) authorized vaccine, your risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be reduced.”

The notice comes in the backdrop of India waiving off quarantine conditions for foreign travelers and seeking recognition for an Indian vaccine certificate.

The US State Department has also issued level two and three advisories to travelers urging them to reconsider travel to Pakistan due to terrorism and sectarian violence. For those traveling to India, caution is advised due to crime and terrorism.

The Advisor also suggested that visitors avoid visiting Jammu and Kashmir within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border due to “civil unrest” and the risk of possible armed conflict.

“Indian authorities report that rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crimes like sexual harassment have taken place at tourist places and other places.”

American travelers to Pakistan were advised to avoid the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), including Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, citing the risk of kidnapping and terrorism.

“Terrorists can attack with little or no warning, targeting transportation centers, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist sites, schools, hospitals, places of worship and government facilities.”

The advisory also mentioned that US diplomats and diplomatic facilities have been attacked in Pakistan in the past.
