Urban Local Body Election: Poling underway in 23 districts of Bihar

PatnaVoting is being held on Wednesday amid tight security for the urban local body elections in Bihar. The polling, which began at 7 am, will end at 5 pm. EVMs are being used for municipal elections. The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is among the 17 municipal corporations, two city councils and 49 city panchayats where polling is being held on Wednesday.

A senior State Election Commission (SEC) official said the results would be declared on December 30. The official said that 61,94,826 voters (32,60,259 male and 29,34,317 female) are eligible to exercise their franchise in 1,529 wards of 23 districts including Patna, Gaya, Arrah, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur. The SEC has made elaborate arrangements for polling, including deployment of security personnel at 7,088 polling stations and 286 mobile polling stations in 23 districts. Officials said that webcasting is being done from all polling stations.
