Suspended State Examination Regulatory Authority secretary Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay was arrested on Wednesday in the UPTET exam paper leak case.

The action comes two days after the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) was canceled after a question paper was leaked. Upadhyay was responsible for conducting the examination and the lapses that occurred. The government has also started a disciplinary inquiry against him.

The suspended secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Examination Regulatory Authority was arrested by the state’s Special Task Force officials for ordering the printing of the UP Teacher Eligibility Test to a firm without following the secrecy provisions in the process.

An STF release said that its Noida unit had on November 29 arrested Anoop Rai, director of printing firm RSM Finserve, after he was found to be involved in leaking papers for the UP TET exam, leading to its cancellation. .

Rai was arrested on the basis of revelations made by other accused arrested earlier in the case.

After questioning Anoop Rai, it was revealed that Upadhyay was also involved in the paper leak as the printing press which was entrusted with the task of printing the question papers did not have any secure printing press and had got the work done by four other presses.

UPTET is the minimum qualification to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in government schools.

The suspension order issued by Basic Education Secretary Anamika Singh stated that Upadhyay is prima facie guilty of not maintaining the sanctity of the examination and failing to adhere to high standards of confidentiality.

According to the order, the state government has been brought into disrepute by canceling the exam even before the start of the exam due to leak. The leaks reveal that Upadhyay failed to conduct the exam smoothly and hence, he was suspended after the approval of Governor Anandiben Patel.

Upadhyay has been attached to the Directorate of Basic Education, Lucknow during the suspension period.

Over 20 lakh candidates had registered for the UPTET scheduled on November 28. It was canceled after reports of question paper leak.

UP STF has arrested 29 accused and kept 20 more people from other districts under investigation.
