Prayagraj: For the first time in Sangam city, a manufacturing plant making tiles and bricks from construction waste has been commissioned. Located in Baswar, it is the first of its kind manufacturing unit in the state, which uses debris and construction waste that is unusable on roads and causes air pollution, to make bricks and tiles.
Built at a cost of over Rs 5.5 crore, the plant has the capacity to handle 100 metric tonnes (MT) of construction waste per day. The plant is capable of recycling 50-100 metric tonnes of waste generated daily from urban areas of the city. The rubble, bricks, curb stone, tiles and slab cover will be recycled to produce material used in road construction and interlocking.
The C&D Waste Plant was jointly inaugurated on Wednesday by the city’s Mayor Abhilasha Gupta Nandi, Divisional Commissioner Sanjay Goyal and Municipal Commissioner Ravi Ranjan. With the inauguration of the plant, Prayagraj has become the first municipal corporation in the state to start a C&D waste plant manufacturing unit.
Highlighting the functioning of the plant, Municipal Commissioner Ravi Ranjan said that debris from roads, buildings and other construction/demolition works often leads to various environmental pollution related problems as well as issues like clogging of drains and obstruction of road movement. produces.
“This waste plant will prove to be an effective way to convert these waste materials into something useful”, he said.
The construction unit has been constructed at a cost of Rs 5.63 crore, of which Rs 4.13 crore has been sanctioned from Smart City Project and Rs 1.5 crore from National Clean Air Programme. The bricks, curb stones, tiles and slab covers made from C&D Waste Plant will be procured by the Municipal Corporation at concessional rates. So far, around 15000 metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste has been collected, of which recycling is underway.
Now that the plant has been made functional, all C&D waste generators like land owners, builders, contractors, government/private organizations will be able to dispose of their waste at reasonable rates. The agency identified by the Municipal Corporation will also do the work of collecting debris from various places in the city.
On this occasion, Divisional Commissioner Sanjay Goyal appealed to all the residents of the district to dispose of the debris coming out of their homes in this Baswar plant.
“A simple step by the countrymen will make them more responsible and at the same time it will help in keeping Prayagraj clean and prevent various types of pollution arising out of debris,” Goyal said.
