UP’s daughters will not allow previous governments to come to power: PM Modi in Prayagraj key points

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Prayagraj today to promote women empowerment-centric schemes and transferred an amount of Rs 1,000 crore to the bank accounts of Self Help Groups (SHGs), benefiting around 16 lakh women members of SHGs .

According to ANI, “a one of its kind event was attended by over 2 lakh women from across the state”. The program was organized with a view to empower women especially at the grassroots level.

The objective of this program was to empower women at the grassroots level by providing them with the necessary skills, encouragement and resources. The PM also transferred a stipend of Rs 4,000 for the first month into the accounts of 20,000 Business Correspondents-Sakhis. This was followed by a transfer of over Rs 20 crore to nearly one lakh beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, which aimed to provide conditional fund transfers to a girl child at various stages of her life, especially in education.

After informal interactions with the women and children who attended the event, PM Modi addressed the crowd and explained how the state and central governments are working to empower the women of India.

Highlights of PM Modi’s speech:

  • Initiating his speech, PM Modi said that the state has worked for women empowerment and this scheme will benefit the daughters of the state.
  • PM Modi said that most of the beneficiaries are girls who did not even have an account till some time ago. But today they have the power of digital banking and now the daughters of UP have decided that they will not allow the previous governments to come to power again.
  • PM Modi said that to end female feticide in our country, the central government has come up with the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign and today the result is that the number of daughters has increased significantly in many states of the country.
  • He further said that the government has also focused on empowering pregnant women so that they can take care of themselves during delivery and nutrition during pregnancy in hospitals. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Rs 5000 is deposited in the bank accounts of women during pregnancy, so that they can take proper diet.
  • After this, the Prime Minister told about the various schemes launched to improve the standard of living of women and to provide them basic necessities. PM Modi said that the lives of women have been affected by the construction of crores of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the facility of gas connections to the poorest of the poor sisters under the Ujjwala scheme and proper supply of water to their homes.   • Speaking about the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill to raise the age of marriage for women, PM Modi said, “The Union Cabinet has decided to raise the age of marriage of women from 18 to 21 years. We are making efforts. Have been doing this because women want that they should get time for their studies, get equal opportunities. But some are upset with this decision.”
  • Under PM Awas Yojana, more than 30 lakh houses have been built in UP – about 25 lakh houses are registered in the name of women. For generations, women did not have any property here but today they are the mistress of the whole house. This is the real women empowerment

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Mathura MP Hema Malini and others were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the event, the UP CM also said, “The respect that the women of the country were waiting for since independence, was given after 2014. The UP government has done the work of giving respect to every woman of the state. It is the result of the work. Everyone has seen what the PM did to change the attitude towards half the population.”

After the fund transfer, the PM also laid the foundation stone of 202 Supplementary Nutrition Manufacturing Units, which will supply nutritional supplements to 600 blocks of the state under the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
