UP floods: Common man in Pilibhit left to fend for himself, says Varun Gandhi

Lucknow, October 21: BJP MP Varun Gandhi, whose Pilibhit constituency has received heavy rains, on Thursday attacked the Uttar Pradesh government, asking what is the point of governance if the common man is left to fend for himself. . Officials said on Wednesday that three people were killed and hundreds were left unharmed in two days of torrential rains in Bareilly and Pilibhit districts.

“Most of the Terai is badly submerged. Donate dry ration by hand so that no family goes hungry till this calamity is over. It is a pity that when the common man needs the system the most, he gives up taking care of himself. If every response is individual then what is the point of ‘governance’.”

About 500 villagers in Pilibhit are submerged in the waters of the Sharda river. The Pilibhit district administration on Tuesday night sought the help of the army for the rescue operation and since Wednesday morning 26 people have been shifted to safer places.

Local BJP MP Varun Gandhi had written to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath seeking compensation for farmers whose crops have been damaged due to floods. Gandhi’s spokesperson MR Malik had said that the MP has demanded that the farmers whose crops have been damaged should be given compensation.
