UP: Flood situation critical in Prayagraj, danger marks across Ganga, Yamuna Allahabad News – Times of India

Prayagraj: Both the Ganga and Yamuna rivers crossed the danger mark of 84.73 meters in the city on Monday morning after a continuous upward trend in the city for the last 24 hours. With the water level in both the rivers still rising and fresh areas inundated, the district administration has started evacuating the affected people and moving them to safer places and flood relief camps.
The water level in river Ganga at Phaphamau (as recorded at 8 am) was 85.08-m while Chhatnag, it was 84.29-meters. Similarly, the water level of Yamuna river at Naini was recorded at 84.90 meters.
The water level in both the rivers and the Yamuna rose at a speed of about 6 cm every two hours. Due to rising water, the water level at all the three recording points of the rivers (recorded at 4 pm) rose to 85.27 meters at Phaphamau and 84.49 meters at Chhatnag. The water level of Yamuna was recorded at 85.13 meters.
The water level, as recorded by the irrigation department, is still rising at the rate of 4 cm in Phaphamau, 3 cm in Chhatnag and 6 cm in Naini (Yamuna).
Due to the increase in the amount of water in both the rivers, the flood water has entered the affected areas further. Ganga Nagar, Nevada, Ashok Nagar, Bailey Village, parts of Rajapur, Salori, Bada and Chhota Baghara, Badra and Sanauti, Daraganj, Nagvasuki etc.
Similarly, due to the rise in the water level in Yamuna, flood water has reached Baluaghat, Gaus Nagar, JK Ashiana, some parts of the district along the banks of Yamuna. Karelabagh and the area near the banks of Yamuna.
Many areas are submerged in floods, flood relief camps have been set up by the administration, which are providing facilities to the flood affected people. During this the district administration and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) is keeping a close watch on the flood level as well as helping the local people to move to safer places.
“We are keeping a close watch on the water level and since it is rising upstream of Yamuna, the trend will continue. Prayagraj And further towards Varanasi,” Irrigation Department executive engineer Brijesh Kumar Verma told TOI on Monday.
Meanwhile, the soldiers of Red Eagle Division They are providing assistance to areas in 12 villages of Jalaun district affected by Yamuna floods, about 350 km from Prayagraj. Due to the rising water level, the connectivity of the villages has been cut off. Between August 7 and Monday, a total of 135 villagers, including 20 children, were evacuated by the security forces to safer places.

During the evacuation, the woman suffered labor and due to concerted efforts of the Red Eagle Division’s flood relief team, she was safely shifted to the nearest hospital. The rescued woman gave birth to a baby girl the next day, both the child and the mother are healthy, informed the Defense Public Relations Officer.
The efforts of the flood relief team have been appreciated by the local people and the civil administration. Army’s flood relief teams have provided much needed help and relief to the villagers of Jalaun district and helped in easing the hardships of the local people to a great extent.
