UP elections: ‘Samajwadi thali, MNREGA-like law for 10 rupees if you vote for power’, said Akhilesh and Jayant

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has promised a ‘Samajwadi Thali’ for Rs 10 for the poor, as well as an Urban Employment Guarantee Act on the lines of MGNREGA, if his party forms the government. Akhilesh was addressing a joint press conference with Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary in Ghaziabad on Saturday ahead of next month’s assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

“The Samajwadi Party wants to put certain things in the public domain before announcing the manifesto for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. SP has already promised 300 units of free electricity to homes, free electricity for irrigation to farmers, laptops for students and old pension scheme.

He further said, “Now we also want to announce that after the formation of the government in the state, Samajwadi canteens and Samajwadi kirana (convenience) stores will be set up where the poor will get ration and other supplies at subsidized rates. I am saying this because Because Dr. Lohia once said that if you want to control inflation then you have to make a policy to control the prices of commodities. We will provide nutritious food to Samajwadi Thali in these canteens for Rs 10, which will ensure that It would be that no one would go hungry. We had started these canteens in some places earlier also, but the BJP government closed them.”

In another big announcement, the SP chief said, ‘Many people come to urban areas for work, so we will bring an urban employment guarantee law on the lines of MNREGA to ensure employment for such people. I had said earlier that if we come to power, there will be 22 lakh job opportunities in the IT sector. Apart from this, 11 lakh government posts are lying vacant. We will fill those posts on priority basis.

On fielding tainted candidates for the assembly elections, Akhilesh said that BJP has also fielded 82 such candidates so far. “The party which has a tainted background of CM and Deputy CM, along with the son of a MoS who has been accused of cutting farmers, should introspect first. Most of such candidates fielded by the SP were falsely implicated by the BJP-led government.
