UP elections: BJP forms four-member committee to woo Brahmin community in all 403 assembly constituencies

The BJP has formed a four-member committee in an effort to reach out to the Brahmin community in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the assembly elections due early next year. Top Brahmin leaders of the saffron party will visit all 403 assembly constituencies in the state as part of an outreach programme.

The committee includes Rajya Sabha Chief Whip Shiv Pratap Shukla, party leader Abhijit Mishra, former national secretary and Gujarat MPs Ram Bhai Mokaria and Dr Mahesh Sharma. Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son is an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, will also attend the outreach programme. He was also present in the meeting.

Sources said the BJP leaders will hold talks with community leaders in all 403 assembly constituencies of the state.

Sources further said that the party wants to state that it has worked tirelessly for the welfare of the Brahmin community. The move assumes significance as the BJP is trying to woo the nearly 17 per cent Brahmin community in the state.

“They will inform the community leaders about the construction of Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, Kashi Vishwanath corridor and other issues,” sources said.

The community will also be enticed by the renovation and decoration of Parashuram shrines and dhams across the polling state.

Community leaders will also be apprised of other welfare measures initiated by the Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath governments.

The panel was formed after an hour-long meeting at the residence of BJP’s UP in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan this afternoon. Other Brahmin leaders present in the meeting include UP Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, Minister Anil Sharma, Jitin Prasad, Brajesh Pathak, Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Sunil Bharala.

Targeting the BJP, the opposition parties have been accusing the Yogi government of being anti-Brahmin.
