This will be Akhilesh’s debut in the state assembly elections. He currently represents Azamgarh in the Parliament. In 2012, when Yadav became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, he was elected to the Legislative Council.
Voting will be held on February 20 in Karhal, one of the five assembly constituencies of Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. The Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7. Counting of votes will take place on March 10. ,
On Wednesday, the SP chief had said that he would take permission from the people of Azamgarh if he decides to contest the Uttar Pradesh elections. “I will take people’s permission in Azamgarh and then contest from there,” he had told a press conference.
There was also speculation that Akhilesh might contest from two seats and Gopalpur in Azamgarh could be the second constituency.
