LUCKNOW: Congress has promised to waive all farm loans within 10 days if it forms the government in UP.
Congress general secretary released the party’s manifesto “Unnati Vidhan”, which she termed as ‘Jana Ghoshna Patra’ (people’s manifesto), in Lucknow on Wednesday.
The poll manifesto also promised to slash the electricity bill for farmers to 50% and waiver on the bill for the Covid-19 pandemic period. It will also buy wheat and paddy at Rs 2,500 per quintal and sugarcane at the rate of Rs 400 per quintal if voted to power.
The party had earlier released two manifestos — “Shakti Vidhan” for women and “Bharti Vidhan” for youth.
Congress has promised several steps to empower the scheduled castes and tribes and pasmanda (poor) Muslims.
It has assured free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level for SC/ST children, besides providing reservation in promotion to members of the two communities.
The party also promised benefit of reservation to Dalit sub-categories and formation of a commission to look into the needs and frame a plan for the uplift of pasmanda (poor) Muslims.
The Congress will appoint an SC leader as UP home minister to curb rising crimes against Dalits in the state.
“Our government will provide 20 lakh government jobs. While 12 lakh jobs will be given for filling vacant posts, 8 lakh new jobs will be created,” Priyanka said, adding 40% of these would be earmarked for women.
Priyanka said the Congress wanted to end outsourcing in the government, and will regularize those, who are on contract or are being outsourced, in a phased manner.
Further, the party will grant tribal status to Kol community which is listed as a scheduled caste in UP. In states like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, Kols are considered as a tribe.
Priyanka Gandhi said: “The Congress manifesto isnot just a bunch of promises made in the poll season. A lot of hard work has gone in framing of this document which also gives a blueprint on how the promises would be fulfilled.”
UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu expressed hope that voters of UP will repose their faith in the Congress since it is the only party which fights for their rights.
BJP copied our idea to give scooter to girls: Priyanka
A day after BJP promised to give scooters to meritorious girls, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP of copying her party’s idea. Releasing the party’s manifesto, she said “they (BJP) are too busy taking about the past. They talk about what was done in the past 70 years instead of talking about their achievements in the past five years. Therefore, they picked up our idea.”
Priyanka urged people of UP to question candidates knocking on their doors about their plans to bring about real development in their areas and address their daily problems.
