UP Block Panchayat Election Results: BJP wins all seats in Lucknow, Agra; 3 seats for SP in Sitapur

The counting of votes for the 476 posts of block panchayat heads in Uttar Pradesh ended on Saturday. Voting took place on Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. Certificates will be issued to the winning candidates today.

BJP won all the seats in 8 blocks in Lucknow and Kannauj. The saffron party won six out of eight seats in Moradabad and three out of six in Bhadohi.

In Sitapur, BJP won 15 out of 19 seats and SP won three seats. In Hardoi, BJP won 14 seats out of 19 blocks. The SP won only one seat and independents won three seats each.

The ruling party in Uttar Pradesh won 14 seats in Agra unopposed. BJP defeated SP in Barauli Ahir where voting was held.

BJP won eight out of nine seats in Muzaffarnagar. The second seat was won by RLD.

According to reports, there have been reports of post-poll violence in some districts. A police officer was slapped in Etawah for allegedly favoring BJP candidates.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials to make tight security arrangements in every block of counting of votes. In a statement issued here, Adityanath said there should be a system in which winning and losing candidates can be taken to their homes under police protection.

“Police force should be extra alert and sensitive. Strict action should be initiated against those who create disturbances,” he said. A total of 349 candidates were elected unopposed for the posts of Block Panchayat Pramukh on Friday, the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers.

State Election Commissioner Manoj Kumar, in a statement issued here on Friday, said that 1,778 nomination papers were received for 825 posts of block panchayat chief, out of which 68 were canceled and 187 were withdrawn. As a result, 1,710 candidates will now go to polls on Saturday, he had said.

As the State Election Commission announced that candidates for 349 posts were elected unopposed, a BJP functionary claimed that 334 of the winning candidates were from the ruling party. Uttar Pradesh BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh said that after the formation of the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Adityanath, development and good governance have been established in Uttar Pradesh by eradicating casteism and corruption.

He said, “This is the reason why BJP is consistently winning even in the three-tier panchayat elections, which is a seal of people’s approval on BJP’s policies.” Opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress, have accused the ruling BJP of harming democracy in the election of Kshetra Panchayat chiefs and attacked it for allegedly showing “absolute disrespect” towards women during the election process. has done.

He accused the government of misusing power and government machinery in the panchayat elections. Targeting the BJP government, BSP chief Mayawati alleged that there is a jungle raj in the state.

In a tweet in Hindi on Saturday, he said, “There is no rule of law under the present BJP government in UP, but there is a jungle raj going on, under which there has been widespread violence in panchayat elections, and a woman in Lakhimpur Kheri. It is highly condemnable. Is this their (BJP’s) rule of law and democracy? It is something to think about.
