The woman’s body was found on Thursday on the property purportedly belonging to Rajol Singh, the son of late Fateh Bahadur Singhformer minister in the Samajwadi Party (SP) government.
The post-mortem report, meanwhile, has confirmed the death of the woman by strangulation. The police have also arrested one more accused in this regard.
On Thursday, the body of the woman, who had gone missing two months ago, was recovered near an ashram owned by the former UP minister’s son in Kabba Kheda area under the limits of Sadar Kotwali police station of Unnao. The body was found in a septic tank pit in a decomposed state.
Allegations were made by the woman’s mother that the police had failed in preventing the incident and arresting the accused persons on time.
Additional superintendent of police Unnao Shashi Shekhar Singh on Friday said that the inspector-in-charge has been suspended over deeliction of duty.
“Inspector Kotwali Akhilesh Chandra Pandey did not convert the missing case further to IPC sections, which substantiated his negligence into the case and he has been suspended by superintendent of police Dinesh Tripathi,” said ASP further.
ASP said apart from this, another accused Suraj has been arrested. “Our assurance to the family is that the Unnao police are with them till the culprits are punished,” said Singh further.
The victim’s mother, however, had claimed that the police did not pay heed to her complaint. “The officials said your girl has run away from home. She will return soon. The officials did not even let us meet the SP,” woman’s mother had alleged on Thursday while talking to media persons.
The police said the post-mortem report confirmed the death by strangulation. “Along with this, there is a serious injury on the neck bone and head bone of the woman. Death has happened due to suffocation. A panel of three doctors conducted the post-mortem. The doctors have also made slides for examination. The entire post-mortem has also been done,” police said further.
Meanwhile, the last rites of the girl were held at Chandan Ghat on Friday. Earlier, the victim’s family members staged a protest at the ghat with several demands. Due to this, the last rites could not be performed even after two hours. The officers present on the spot pacified the deceased’s family. The relatives had demanded the postmortem report, which was later provided by the police. A heavy police force besides district officials including the city magistrate, remained present at the ghat.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Friday, lashed out at the Samajwadi Party over the incident.
“The recovery of the buried body of a Dalit girl in the SP leader’s field in Unnao district is a very sad and serious matter. The family members were already suspecting the SP leader about her abduction and murder. The state government should immediately take strict legal action against the culprits to get justice for the victim’s family,” Mayawati tweeted.
Similarly, deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, tweeted, “Shri Akhilesh Yadav ji, a dead body of a Dalit daughter was recovered from the SP leader’s field, when the daughter’s mother was pleading in front of your car, then you did not listen to her and protect the SP leader, in the new SP you will forgive every heinous crime of the SP men, will leave no stone unturned to bring justice to the victim and punish the guilty.”
To recall, on January 24, the girl’s mother had attempted a self-immolation bid in front of the SP president Akhilesh Yadav’s vehicle in Lucknow.
The police thereafter arrested the accused Rajol Singh and sent him to jail. On the basis of inputs provided by him during the investigation, police recovered the body from a vacant plot near the ashram of the minister’s son on Thursday.
