‘Unknown’: Actor Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikantan clarifies on ’40 films’ remarks

The launch of the song of the upcoming Tamil film Anna Sola Pogirai in Chennai created a controversy. Cooking reality show ‘Kooku With Komali’ fame actor Ashwin Kumar Lakshmikantan is making his Tamil debut as a solo lead in the film.

During the song launch event on Monday, Ashwin became the center of controversy when he said that he agreed to do Hariharan-directed Ana Sola Pogirai as he was “waking through the narration.” He went on to say that he had to refuse “40 films” earlier because they closed the halfway point of the narrative. Now the actor has clarified his statement.

At the audio launch event, director Hariharan called Ashwin a “superstar” and this angered Rajinikanth’s fans, who took to social media to vent their anger. He was trolled for his speech on the stage of his debut film. Many also called Ashwin an “arrogant” person.

A day after the controversy, the actor clarified the speech and explained what happened during the audio launch event.

Talking to news portal DTnext, Ashwin said that he was “absolutely nervous” as it was his first big event.

“I had not prepared a speech and was completely distorted by the love my fans showered on me. I did not intend to insult any director who narrated stories to me,” he said.

The actor said that he never thought that his speech would be so bad. “I understand the sentiments behind it. However, it was unintentional,” he said.

Commenting on his statement dozing through 40 scripts, Ashwin said, “I shouldn’t have taken equal liberties on stage.” Ashwin said he felt targeted and asked people to “understand that this was not out of disrespect.” Ashwin’s upcoming film ‘Anna Solla Pogirai’ is releasing on 24 December 2021.
