Unity key to Congress’s prospects in Karnataka polls: Rahul

The biggest challenge before the Congress party to return to power in Karnataka in 2023 is the unity among the state leaders, the party’s vice-president. Rahul Gandhi Said at a preparatory meeting in Bengaluru on Friday.

“You all must fight as a unit. This is your biggest responsibility. You are doing it to some extent but you have to do it more intensely. Everyone should work together to get at least 150 seats,” said Rahul amid concerns that differences between top leaders, especially state chief DK Shivakumar and former CM Siddaramaiah, in the early 2023 elections Can disrupt the party’s prospects.

Rahul said that merit should be the only consideration for identification of leaders. “We should promote people on the basis of merit. When we come to power, we should give due reward to the workers who gave blood and tears for the party.

In the meeting, stalwarts like Siddaramaiah and Mallikarjun Kharge stressed on the need to stand up to win the trust of minorities.

“Those who stand behind you and strengthen you, who have supported you over the years – we must learn to speak up for them. When minorities and downtrodden are in trouble, if we do not stand with them, others will not join us either. We have to understand this,” said Congress party leader in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

Punjab worried, rivalry wary

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah argued that the responsibility of protecting minorities, backward classes and Dalits lies with the Congress party.

“The minorities are worried, they are of the view that more people should speak on their behalf. Many people from the minority community have spoken to me on this issue. Congress party should be aggressive on this.

Earlier, state Congress president DK Shivakumar shrugged off controversial issues and talked about the party’s preparations to win the 2023 elections. “We believe in collective leadership. I believe in party worship. We are all here because of the party.”
