The global fashion brand known as United Colors of Benetton, Benetton is making a lot of noise with its latest offering – a unisex hijab.

The Italian fast fashion brand is selling Islamic headwear to attract a large consumer population. The item is available in Black, Red, Green and Yellow colors and is priced at Rs.3,009.

According to Benetton’s website, “The unisex hijab (comes) in stretchy fabric. The small clashing print on the left that associates the Benetton logo with the ‘G’ of Ghali. This accessory belongs to the ‘United Colors of Glee’ capsule collection.” , created by rapper Gali Amdouni.The hijab is a traditional veil worn by Muslim women.

For Unite, the collection was launched at Milan Fashion Week 2021, and Gali shot several photos with the headgear.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the 28-year-old rapper – who was born to Tunisian parents – was quoted as saying, “The hijab is a unique garment that I so wanted to include in the collection. There was no protest from the company. When I was a kid, I was bullied in school with no one to represent me, which is normal now.”

“I’m tired of hearing how everything Arab or Tunisian is associated with something negative. When I was little, my mother was afraid that I would go out with my Arab peers, she preferred that I have Italian friends. Now I think it’s important to say that this diversity is an added value, that’s what makes me unique,” he said.
