Freddie Sven, the Danish ambassador to India, said that dialogue is needed to ensure that the Russia-Ukraine hostilities are put to an end.

The past year has been a year of unprecedented crisis for the people of Europe. The Russia-Ukraine war has claimed thousands of lives and millions are struggling to survive far from their homeland. Like many European countries, Denmark also stands with the Ukrainians, “It is unbelievable that in this era of peace, we are facing a war that is devastating for all of us,” said Freddy Swan, Danish Ambassador to India They say.

The war has affected the global economy and countries have faced a crisis in terms of availability of food, fertilizer and fuel. Things were worse in the developing world of the Global South, Latin America and Africa when Ukraine’s granaries became part of the spoils of war, and European and US sanctions prevented Russian fertilizers from entering the international market.

Swan says, “Hopefully one day people will realize that war is not the way forward, and as the Honorable Prime Minister has very clearly stated that we do not live in an age of war, so we must All forces have to be put together.” ordered to restore peace. And we begin to build the trust and confidence that this world will need to fight not only the crisis of food, fertilizer and fuel, but also the crisis of climate change. We are spending so much money on this war from both sides, this money could have been used for poverty alleviation or climate change.

But after 12 months of war have passed, the forces of both sides have literally broken down, and new weapons and information warfare are also on full display. How soon can one expect this war to end? Swain says, “I think the sad but realistic answer is that it’s not going to stop tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Hopefully, there will be an end to it. Of course, the easiest way out of this is for Russia to retreat.”

on the possible role of India Bringing the two warring factions to a peace table, says Savane, “given the international profile that India enjoys, and especially the Prime Minister of India is enjoying, and the G20 being controlled by India.” I hope and express my expectation that India will be doing what India can do.

Russia has begun to signal that it is willing to hold talks, but without any preconditions. Recently, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said in an interview, “Yes, the classics say that any military action ends in negotiations, and of course, we have already said that we are ready for such negotiations.” Will be ready for … But only negotiations without preconditions for negotiations based on the reality that exists, negotiations taking into account the goals that we publicly voiced.

Will diplomatic efforts on Russia’s desire for peace talks succeed in reducing tensions? The Danish ambassador says, “I think that if Russia is not withdrawing, then unfortunately the war will continue, but at the end of the day, you need to find a dialogue to make sure that the hostilities cease.” Go. We cannot allow this to continue.”

Like many European countries, Denmark has received a large number of refugees. Since the outbreak of war, Danish support to Ukraine has amounted to approximately 659 million euros in military aid and 192 million euros in civilian aid, including humanitarian contributions. Danish focus areas are military assistance, humanitarian and rapid support, and financial assistance to the Ukrainian state. In total, since the start of the war in Ukraine, NATO with its 30 members has provided at least $80 billion in military, humanitarian and financial aid to Ukraine.
