Ukraine halts peace talks with Russia: Putin tells German Chancellor

new Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in a telephonic conversation on Friday that Kyiv was trying to stall peace talks with Moscow.

“It was noted that the Kyiv regime is trying in every possible way to delay the negotiation process, putting forward more and more unrealistic proposals,” the Kremlin said in a readout of the call, Reuters reported.

However, Putin said that Russia is still willing to continue talks with Ukraine.

“Nevertheless, the Russian side stands ready to continue to seek solutions in line with its well-known theoretical approaches,” the Kremlin said.

The German chancellor, on his part, called for a ceasefire in Ukraine during a phone call with the Russian president.

A German government spokesman said Scholz also stressed in their nearly hour-long conversation that the humanitarian situation needed to improve and that progress needed to be made in finding a diplomatic solution as soon as possible, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, aid agencies continue to intensify their efforts to bring much-needed relief supplies to civilians affected by the fighting as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine enters its fourth week.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said, “What we are doing is bringing more people into the country, bringing more aid into the country, working with partners to make sure that we are effectively Do what we can to help.” UNHCR) spokesman Matthew Saltmarsh, told the AP.

Rzczów, the largest city in south-eastern Poland, has become a humanitarian aid center for the region.

Aid supplies, including food, blankets, solar lamps, warm clothing, mattresses, jerrycans and plastic sheeting, continue to arrive at a large warehouse run by the UNHCR, next to the airport outside Rzczów, roughly from the border with Ukraine. It is 100 kms away.
