UGC Now has norms on work ethic, values ​​to be instilled in universities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is all set to reform the existing education system by introducing several new guidelines. After introducing National Education Policy in 2020 and Common University Entrance Test for undergraduate admissions this year, the body is now all set to inculcate values ​​and ethics in students through education. While sharing a newspaper clip, UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar has confirmed that UGC is bringing new norms on values ​​and work ethic in educational institutions.

Kumar tweeted a newspaper cutting and wrote, “Economic Times report: ‘UGC to bring new norms on values, work ethic in universities.'”

In his tweet, he said, “UGC will soon post guidelines on the above for stakeholders’ feedback. It is an equally important reform and needs to be created awareness.”

The revised guidelines have not been released officially by the commission. According to Kumar, soon it will be put in public place for the stakeholders to provide their valuable feedback and comments in no time.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that the UGC in its meeting on March 10 has approved the revised guidelines on ‘Value Flow – Incorporation of Human Values ​​and Business Ethics’.

The revised guideline advises all universities to introduce human values ​​and professional ethics for undergraduate level as well as an advanced curriculum for postgraduate students, ET report said. In addition, the draft calls for active participation of students in various government social programs as well as engagement with non-governmental and social organizations, the report further stated.

The revised edition talks about a number of moral lessons for students that they should follow in institutions, public places and at home. Also, it asks teachers to be role models and set examples.

As per the report, the guideline has been revised as per the NEP 2020 which highlights the advocacy of fundamental and constitutional duties among the students so that they become aware of their country and the responsibilities of making it a better country.
