The three HEIs are entitled to offer online courses as long as they comply with NAAC or NIRF ranking requirements, according to UGC regulations (PTI File)
Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (Himachal Pradesh), Galgotias University (Uttar Pradesh) and Vivekananda Global University (Rajasthan) are HEIs approved by the commission.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved and permitted three additional higher Education Institute (HEI) to offer programs in online and distance education mode. These courses are for the academic session commencing from January-February 2023. The HEIs that have been approved by the commission are Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (Himachal Pradesh), Galgotias University (Uttar Pradesh) and Vivekananda Global University (Rajasthan).
The Commission approved these HEIs only after obtaining an affidavit certifying their compliance with the UGC (ODL, Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 and the prescribed fee. The admission deadline for each academic session will be notified by the UGC shortly. Thereafter, the HEI will upload the admission details within fifteen days. However, the last date for admission for the academic session commencing from January-February 2023 is March 31.
“The list will be updated from time to time as per the requirement. Accordingly, the stakeholders are requested to refer to the various public notices on the UGC DEB website.
As per UGC regulations, up to three HEIs are entitled to offer online courses as long as they are not complying with National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) or National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking requirements.
DETAILS ON THREE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (Himachal Pradesh): There will be only one program that is available which is master Business Administration (MBA) in open and ODL format.
Vivekananda Global University (Rajasthan): A total of three programs will be offered in open and ODL mode which are Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Galgotias University (Uttar Pradesh): A total of five courses will be offered which are Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Application (MCA), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA), and Master of Commerce in Open and ODL mode.
The UGC had earlier directed all HEIs running online and ODL courses to generate Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) IDs of their students and credit their credits. Hence as per the new National Education Policy (NEP), the objective of ABC will be to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary academic mobility among HELs across India.
