UEFA Nations League winners France jump to third place in latest FIFA rankings, Belgium still number one

France’s Nations League title propelled the country’s national team to No. 3 in Thursday’s FIFA rankings. France, which won the World Cup in 2018, is still behind both top-ranked Belgium and No. 2 Brazil.

Belgium have been at the top of the rankings for three years, losing to France in the semi-finals of both the World Cup and the Nations League.

Belgium added more ranking points than France in the current World Cup qualifying schedule and the group stage and knockout rounds of this year’s European Championship with a better record so far.

Euro 2020 champions Italy has moved up one place to number four and England has dropped two places to number five.

The top 10 Copa America champions Argentina, Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Denmark were completed.

The rankings are likely to come into play when FIFA does seeding for the next World Cup draw. It is scheduled for April 1 in Doha, Qatar.

Senegal is the best ranked country in Africa at number 20, while Iran is the highest ranked Asian country at number 22.

World Cup host Qatar, the 2019 Asian Cup champions, is ranked 46th.
