UDUPI: Even as the row of hijab (head scarf) Government PU College for Girls remains unresolved in Udupi in Karnataka, Hindu Jagran Vedic (HJV) has warned the government to launch saffron shawl campaign In all educational institutions of the district “if muslim girls Wearing hijab is allowed during classes”.

HJV Mangaluru Divisional General Secretary Prakash Kukkehalli “If hijab is allowed, Hindu students in schools and colleges in the district will attend classes wearing saffron shawls,” he said.

Kukkehalli alleged that communal organizations were trying to disrupt harmony in educational campuses, adding that attempts were being made to send students to institutions wearing burqa and hijab.

“They are now seeking permission to wear the hijab during class and in future they may seek permission to wear cap and burqa in educational campuses,” he said.
He said, “Communal organizations are trying to portray the incident being reported in the district as an international issue. If the government succumbs to pressure tactics, we will see people wearing saffron shawls in all schools and colleges in the district. Will launch a campaign for Hindu students from religious organizations,” he said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the State Committee of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) reached Udupi College to meet the principal to discuss the hijab controversy.
However, the college remained closed on Friday after some students tested positive for Covid-19.
NSUI State Vice President Farooq Bayabe said that the organization has decided to file a writ petition in the High Court.
“Banning the hijab in college violates the fundamental rights of Muslim girl students,” he said.
The NSUI delegation submitted a memorandum to Udupi Deputy Commissioner M Kurma Rao, asking Muslim girls to be allowed to wear hijab during classes.
