UCC Row: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali on Thursday said that the entire Muslim community and some other communities do not want the UCC to be implemented in the country.

He said that AIMPLB has issued a link and appealed everyone to give their opinion so that the Law Commission can be heard how many people are against it.

He claimed that if UCC is implemented then Muslim personal law can be banned.

It is not that only Muslims are against it, a large number of people from other communities are also against the UCC, he said.

“The Law Commission has sought the views of the general public and organizations on the issue of Uniform Civil Code. The Law Commission should be aware that not only a few Muslims but the entire Muslim community as a whole and people from other communities also do the same.” We want the UCC to be implemented…The response is that the Muslim community has warned that the UCC should not be implemented and that our religious freedom should be maintained and we should follow Muslim personal laws in our daily lives. should be allowed to do…,” he elaborated.

AIMPLB sent draft to law commission

Meanwhile, the AIMPLB submitted a draft UCC to the Law Commission on July 5, listing its objections to the proposed law and highlighting the rights enshrined for the community in the Constitution. The working committee of the board had approved the draft response to the UCC, and, on Wednesday, it was presented for discussion at a virtual general meeting of the board that began at 10:00 am.

Earlier, the Secretary, Law Commission of India had asked the AIMPLB to give an appropriate response after seeking views from the public regarding the UCC. Responding to the same, AIMPLB Secretary General said that the issue had been examined earlier and the commission’s predecessors had come to the conclusion that UCC was neither necessary nor desirable. The panel also sought six months’ time to prepare appropriate response by religious organisations, individuals. , and public-spirited person.

Resolution for UCC,

Earlier, the AIMPLB in its executive meeting had passed a resolution stating that the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is not possible as it would be an ‘unnecessary’ act. It added that the Places of Worship Act 1991 “must be maintained and well enforced” and that religious conversion is a matter of “freedom of religion”. Earlier, a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice convened on Monday sought their views on the June 14 notice issued by the Department of Legal Affairs, the Legislative Department and the Law Commission of India. Law Commission is inviting views of stakeholders on Uniform Civil Code.
