Uber, Carrefour expand partnership to speed up deliveries in Paris

US-based ride hailing app owner Uber Technologies and Europe’s largest retailer Carrefour are launching a new rapid grocery delivery service in Paris, expanding their 18-month partnership, the two companies said on Tuesday.

Carrefour Sprint will offer 15-minute grocery delivery service to Parisians exclusively through the Uber Eats mobile app from nine “dark stores” – shops closed to customers where workers prepare orders for delivery – Carrefour’s partner Cashew operated by.

Earlier this year, the French retailer agreed to take a minority stake in newly founded start-up Cashew, which operates “dark stores” across the country.

Established retailers and food deliverers face intense competition from a crop of new, well-funded start-up networks of “dark stores” that can deliver groceries ordered on smartphone apps to the door in minutes .

Eve Henriksson, regional general manager of Uber Delivery EMEA, said, “Over the past 18 months people have come to expect fast and reliable delivery… in Europe alone we have seen a triple-digit growth in demand for grocery delivery.” Statement.

Uber and Carrefour are already offering 30-minute delivery from nearly 2,000 Carrefour stores available on Uber’s app as part of a deal agreed last year.

The two companies have entered into separate deals with other market players such as UK-based Deliveroo and French supermarket chain Casino to expedite deliveries.

He said Uber and Carrefour plan to expand the 15-minute service to other major French cities such as Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lille and Montpellier in the coming weeks.
