Opener Harnoor Singh’s unbeaten 100 negated Cooper Connolly’s 117 as India beat Australia by nine wickets in a warm-up match ahead of the Under-19 World Cup here.
Australia scored 268 runs in 49.2 overs before being all out, with 18-year-old skipper Connolly scoring 117 runs with 18 fours.
Harnoor led India with his century which included 16 fours. He was well supported by Sheikh Rashid, who scored 72 runs.
Both players retired hurt but captain Yash Dul (50 not out) took the team across the finish line with 15 balls to spare at the Providence Stadium here on Tuesday.
The tournament begins on Friday and India will begin their campaign against South Africa on Saturday.
Bangladesh, England and Pakistan also registered impressive victories in other matches.
Bangladesh posted a decent total of 277 after a difficult start when opener Iftakher Hossain was dismissed for just 1 run in the third over.
But Aich Molla got his team back on track after scoring 82 runs in 82 balls with the help of three sixes.
Wicketkeeper Mohammad Fahim also scored 33 runs on time, before skipper Rakibul Hasan was dismissed for 36 before being run out after the Zimbabwe attack.
Telender Ripon Mondol played a quickfire innings of 39 off 26 balls to take the 2020 champions to their final total.
Zimbabwe’s reply didn’t start on solid ground when opener Panache Taruvinga went for a duck.
The next man in Steven Saul retaliated with 39 off 45 balls, but once he dismissed Faheem his team was faced with an uphill task. In the end, he got out for 110 runs.
England beat UAE by two wickets in a thrilling match in the middle-order rally.
UAE, batting first, posted a credible 191-9 in their innings, even losing openers Kai Smith for naught and Shival Bawa for just eight runs.
However, Dhruv Parashar and captain Alishan Sharafu scored a combined 62 to keep Emirates in the competition. Josh Boyden was one of the bowlers for England with figures of 5-42.
But Sharafu’s team refused to go quietly, with tailenders Adihaya Shetty and Jash Gyanani scoring 21 and 15 respectively. Set 192 for victory, England’s response was off to a poor start when George Thomas was bowled by Sharafu on the first ball of the innings.
Lancashire rookie George Bell then took center stage to get England back on track. Bell, who reached the crease with his team at 23-3, scored an unbeaten 75 off 120 balls.
With assists from James Sells (29) and Tom Aspinwall (33), the 19-year-old helped his team to a two-wicket victory.
Pakistan did a great job against Canada. The men in Green reduced them to 31-4.
Ethan Gibson offered some resistance with 55 runs, but Mihir Patel’s team was eventually bowled out for 164.
Pakistan’s reaction started poorly when Haseebullah was dismissed for just 3 runs, but his opening partner Mohammad Shahzad scored 67 runs.
He was supported at the crease by Abdul Fasih, who scored an unbeaten 72 to help his team win by eight wickets.
