Two UP policemen suspended in Bahraich BDC member relative’s murder case

Two policemen, including a police station in-charge, were suspended on Sunday in connection with the murder of a relative of a member of the Block Development Committee (BDC) in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. Additional superintendent of police (ASP), rural Ashok Kumar said Mayaram (60), brother-in-law of BDC member Yadurai Devi, was murdered on Thursday ahead of the election of the block panchayat chief.

She said she died while stopping an alleged attempt to kidnap Devi by a candidate’s husband and supporters. Sudhir Yagyaseni is the main accused in the case and he is the husband of Sarita Yagyaseni, who had BJP support for the election. She won the election held on Saturday.

According to the police, Sudhir along with Yagyasaini supporters and a gunner reached Devi’s house in Dinapurwa village and tried to kidnap her to get votes. Police said when Mayaram resisted the attempt, he was hit with the butt of a gun and died on the spot.

He said that a case has been registered against 10 people including Sudhir Yagyaseni and a constable and till now four people including Sudhir Yagyaseni have been arrested. The ASP said that taking cognizance of the incident, Kharighat police station in-charge Inspector Vimlesh Kumar Singh and constable Jitendra Kumar were suspended on Saturday for negligence in duty.

On Friday, Bahraich Superintendent of Police Sujata Singh had said that the National Security Act would be implemented against the culprits. Sarita Yagyaseni defeated her rival for the post of Shivpur Block Pramukh, who was supported by the Samajwadi Party. He got 70 votes and his nearest rival got 50 votes.
