Two Leopards Rescued In A Day From Surat District | Surat News – Times of India

SURAT: Two leopards were rescued on Wednesday from as many villages of Surat districtone of which is now a part of the city under the municipal corporation limits.
A female leopard was rescued from a cowshed in Kathore village where residents of the thickly populated locality were living on the tenterhooks due to increased movement of leopards recently.
Formerly a village, Kathore is a densely populated urban area with a population of over three lakh. The wild cat was caged at around 6.30 am near Sairam Gaushala where a cage was placed after multiple sightings there in the past few days, possibly in search for prey. The forest department will soon release the three-year-old in the forest area. The leopard was caught within a day of locals alerting the forest department.
Another leopard, believed to be around seven years old, was caged in Nalotha village in mahuva range, around 57 km from Surat city,
“After locals, the cage was placed in a farm and the leopard was rescued. It sustained injury after it was caged and it is being treated. After it recovers completely, the leopard will be released into the forest,” said a forest official. The rescue of two leopards on the same day indicates the rising leopard population is in the district. Recently, two leopards were run over by a vehicle on the national highway 48 near Kamrej.
