RAJKOT: For a 31-year-old woman her second marriage to a 35-year-old man from Upleta proved to be a nightmare. Her three-year-old daughter from her first marriage was allegedly tortured and thrashed mercilessly by her new husband and his brother-in-law for over two weeks in Patanvav village of Upleta taluka in Rajkot.
So much so, the woman and her daughter were confined by the accused duo in the house. The woman somehow managed to escape on Friday and took her ailing daughter to a private doctor in Upleta, who looking at the grievous wounds, referred her to Rajkot civil hospital.
Based on the complaint filed by the woman at Rajkot civil hospital, police arrested the accused duo on Saturday and have brought them for questioning. The duo was booked for assault on a woman and under different sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act.
According to the girl’s mother, she had divorced her first husband in October last year. Later she remarried a couple of months back and started living with her current husband with her daughter from the first marriage.
The woman alleged in her complaint that her second husband did not like her daughter and he used to beat her mercilessly.
She further alleged that the accused also used to punch the girl in her private parts. Police said that the girl had injuries on her abdomen, back and forehead.
The woman told police that the accused had confined her and her daughter for the last two weeks.
The accused also threatened her to keep quiet. However, the woman managed to escape with her daughter and file a police complaint.
