Agra CMO Dr Arun Srivastava said that the two American tourists were part of a group and stayed in a hotel after coming from Varanasi.

A senior health official said on Thursday that two American tourists who visited the Taj Mahal on January 10 have tested COVID-19 positive.

Agra’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Arun Srivastava said that the two American tourists were part of a group and were staying at a hotel after coming from Varanasi.

He said everyone in the group was sampled but only two Americans tested positive.

“He reached Agra via Varanasi on January 9 and stayed at a hotel in Agra and visited the Taj Mahal on January 10. The Agra health department team took samples of tourists at the eastern gate of the Taj Mahal.

He informed that samples of tourists have been sent to Lucknow for genome sequencing.

Srivastava said he has also alerted the health department of Jaipur in Rajasthan as the group of tourists is on their way to the northern state after completing their tour of Agra.

He said, “After the tourists from Agra went to Jaipur in Rajasthan and after the report came positive, we have alerted the health department of Jaipur and given information about the tourists. From USA-Tested COVID-19 positive.

A foreign tourist from Argentina who visited the Taj Mahal during the last week of December tested positive. However, the district health officials could not trace him later as the information provided by him was found to be incorrect.
