Twitter has started the process of revoking verified accounts starting with mass unfollowing and no longer following anyone. The company’s ‘Twitter Verified’ account, which has a massive following of 4.2 million accounts, no longer follows anyone. Earlier, it followed around 420,000 legacy verified accounts.
Twitter previously issued a warning to shut down all legacy verified accounts from April 1 and even removed checkmarks for those who still had but were not paying for Twitter Blue memberships. But now that Twitter has unfollowed everyone, it is not clear whether Twitter Verified is following them or not.
Twitter to remove verified accounts
Earlier, Variety reported that the microblogging site would remove the verified check-mark status of accounts that were verified by Twitter prior to its acquisition of Elon Musk, unless they planned Twitter Blue or business-focused Twitter Verified organizations. Not subscribed.

Earlier, the company had announced that Twitter Blue is now available worldwide. Twitter posted from its official handle. However, Twitter has not revealed how it will deal with the accounts of people who have “notable” mentions on them.
Twitter introduces different colored check-marks
For companies and brands, Twitter recently introduced a gold check-mark and moved government accounts to a gray check-mark. As previously indicated, membership in the social network’s new Twitter Verified Organizations program in the US — which will be the only way to have a gold or gray check-mark badge — will cost US$1,000/month (plus tax) and USD 1000 each. 50/month (plus taxes) for additional linked sub-account.
Twitter first introduced verified accounts in 2009 to help users identify whether celebrities, politicians, companies and brands, news organizations, and other accounts “of public interest” were genuine and not fake or parody accounts. The company did not charge for the first verification. Musk launched Twitter Blue with the check-mark badge as one of the premium perks within two weeks of acquiring the company.
